Solid State and Semi-Solid Fermentations of Olive and Sunflower Cakes with Yarrowia lipolytica: Impact of Biological and Physical Pretreatments

Lignocellulosic biomass is a promising feedstock for added value compound production in biotechnological processes such as solid-state fermentation (SSF). Although these solid materials can be directly used substrates fermentations state, pretreatment often required, especially if the microorganism selected unable to produce lignocellulosic enzymes. In present work, several strategies were applied 50% (w/w) mixture of olive and sunflower cakes before SSF lipase by oleaginous yeast Yarrowia lipolytica W29. Co-culture with Y. Aspergillus niger did not improve yeast. Biological fungal enzymatic extract led significant increase sugar availability substrate after short incubation period, improving growth. Microwave ultrasound physical pretreatments microwave irradiation proved best method, resulting 44% 17% increases growth production, respectively, compared untreated mixture. An improvement activity was also observed ultrasonic treatment semi-solid fermentations, leading 2-fold this enzyme control. The utilization sugars result structural changes substrate, which bioprocesses’ productivity.
